When expectant mamas book me, they some times will book me a few weeks in advance, usually at 32-36 weeks pregnant. Then there are those who are procrastinators {like myself} who call me at the least moment, a week before they’re due in hopes to capture the last blissful days of pregnancy. It’s usually due to the ever-present pregnancy fog that comes when trying to prepare everything before babies arrival. Trying to remember car seats and scheduling doctors appointments, maternity photos can often end up on the bottom of the to-do list.
But, once in awhile, I get that special mama who is a planner. She’s prepared for every part of pregnancy and beyond and maternity photos shoot straight to the top of her list of priorities. Now I love these mamas. I love them for their eagerness and fortitude for making a part of their pregnancy important, because well, it only last 9 months, 40 weeks or approximately 280 days give or take a few days, even weeks.
This mama was special. I instantly liked her from the moment we met. There was something that just clicked. When she came into my studio for her consultation, we chatted like we knew each other forever. The bonus…she was only 11 weeks pregnant with TWINS! One week earlier than most people are before they tell their family and friends they’re expecting. But here she was, without any hesitation, booking me for not just her maternity photos, but my complete package. She didn’t even know the genders yet! We spent the next six months chatting every few weeks to see how doctors appointment were going, making sure that babies were growing and to finally find out she was having both a boy and a girl! Her little family of 3 was now growing to FIVE! One husband, two boys and a girl, plus adding in home renovations just to add a little bit of chaos in for good measure. But of all people who could handle it, she could, with ease and charm and just the right amount of attitude. I love her for it.
Her maternity session was upon us in an instant. When the time finally came, it had been nearly 22 weeks since I had seen her, but she’s just one of those women who look ravishing even 33 weeks pregnant with twins. We spent the next hour, pampering her with hair and makeup and when it was finally time to do her photos, she looked like a natural in front of the camera. Since she was expecting a boy and a girl, I thought it was perfect to dress her in blue and pink.
I couldn’t have been happier than how beautiful her images turned out. Even her little boy stole the show with his intense gaze and adorable smile. Now we wait…only five weeks to go until these babies arrival. I literally am pacing the floor waiting for that date so I can snuggle those babies. It can’t get here fast enough.
